The U.S. Department of Energy’s Sunshot Initiative provided grant funding for Virginia private colleges that wished to enhance their sustainability mission and lower their carbon footprint. Solar City, now Tesla, was assigned to develop this portfolio and Commonwealth Power was contracted to install turn-key solar installations at Washington and Lee (70 kW) and Virginia Union University (181 kW). Both projects were completed in the third and fourth quarters of 2018.
